Uniform

From September 2015, school uniform for children entering the school in Reception and year 1 is mandatory and is encouraged for children entering other year groups.  However, the following guidelines should be observed by all.

General Requirements

  • Clothing to be clean, neat and in good repair. It must also be functional/fit for purpose and appropriate for the weather.
  • All clothing and personal belongings brought into school to be clearly named.
  • Footwear must be safe and sensible, and clearly named. Two pairs of footwear are required – one indoor pair and one outdoor pair. The indoor pair may be either slippers or shoes, but must be appropriate for walking around school.
  • No jewellery to be worn other than for medical or religious reasons. For children with pierced ears, only appropriate small stud earrings may be worn.
  • Watches may be worn, providing they are not bulky on the child’s wrist.
  • Hairstyles to be neat and tidy; long hair must be tied back for PE and swimming.
  • Hats and scarves are not to be worn indoors.
  • No make up, nail varnish or other fashion accessories to be worn.

Suitable Clothing

Shirt, blouse, T-shirt, jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt – without motifs or slogans inappropriate for a school setting. When choosing your child’s clothing, please consider what might cause offence to others.

  • To avoid the risk of sunburn, tops should cover the shoulders.
  • Trousers, jogging bottoms or shorts – must be fitted at the waist.
  • Skirts, shorts and dresses –should be no shorter than just above the knee and no longer than mid-length as this presents a trip hazard.
  • Footwear – flat trainers, flat shoes, boots or sandals with straps around the back of the heel. High-heeled shoes may not be worn.
  • PE wear –T-shirt and  shorts for indoors; T-shirt, shorts and trainers for outdoors.       In colder weather a tracksuit will be needed, which should be suitable for a muddy games field!       Indoor PE is performed in bare feet, and for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is allowed.       PE clothing should be neither too small nor too large as both extremes can be dangerous, particularly when using the apparatus. All children need to have a small PE bag. PE kit needs to be in school all week. As children go outside throughout the year, it is recommended that their trianers are put in a plastic bag inside their PE bag.
  • For swimming (years 5/6 only), girls should wear a one-piece swimming costume and boys should wear trunks or swim shorts with an inner lining (not too long or baggy).
