Curriculum

Overview

Reception children here at St Luke’s follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Children in years 1 to 6, follow the National Curriculum.

The school aims to integrate all pupils into full participation in the National Curriculum. There are details in the National Curriculum which guide what children should be taught, however it is for school to decide how it is taught.  Click on the links below to explore each subject:

Literacy    Maths     Computing     Science      PSHE      History

 Geography    D&T     Languages     RE     Art     Music     PE

Through careful planning, the school ensures that the curriculum:

  • meets the requirements of the National Curriculum;
  • provides continuity and progression for all pupils;
  • provides an appropriate balance of knowledge and skills, with opportunities for creativity and reflection;
  • caters for the needs of all pupils, including the most able and those in need of support, in an inclusive environment.

Curriculum Maps

At the beginning of each term, teachers provide a Curriculum map for the forthcoming term to all children and their parents  which is sent out electronically or on paper as required. These maps give details of what the class will be learning throughout the term in all subjects. These maps can be found by clicking on the link to the appropriate class below.

Enrichment

To enhance the curriculum, we make extensive use of local resources in Cambridge and regularly take children on a walk into town. A range of visitors provides additional expertise and opportunities.

Residential Visits

Residential visits offer opportunities beyond the classroom and residential visits take place each year in KS2.  Year 3 and 4 visit an outward bounds activity centre, PGL Caythorpe Court.  Children in Year 5 and 6 alternate between visiting the Derbyshire Dales and visiting Sheringham, both giving the children an experience of environment very different to Cambridge.
