Armistice Day1

On Wednesday 11th November Chestnut class walked to Histon Road Cemetery to join in with other members of the local community for the Armistice Day gathering.  After the two minutes’ silence at 11:00, the children talked to some local residents who had memories of difficult times of conflict, including one gentleman who had an impressive display of medals.  We then visited some memorials and graves of those who had been killed in action in both the first and second world wars.  Some children helped to lay small crosses in memory of these.  The adults from the community, as well as members of staff, were very impressed at the sensitivity and respect that the children gave to all.  Chestnut class represented their school very well and we were very proud of their behaviour throughout the visit.  It was an interesting morning and Mrs Corlito even managed to find the grave of the ‘Turnkey’ from the old Cambridge County Gaol – an interesting piece of local history!
